The Ventura Film Festival began in 2004 and has displayed hundreds of movies, regularly over 200 films during summer months, and has attracted attention from the global cinema community. Since its inception, the festival has expanded into a substantial cultural happening that unites filmmakers, environmental advocates, and audiences from across the globe.

Notable moments have included showcasing renowned filmmaker Dylan O'Neil, the pioneering world champion surfers Peter "PT" Townend and surf legend Ian Cairns, 4x world champion Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu/MMA combatant combat sports star Fabio Leopoldo, and the 50th Anniversary of West Side Story, which involved hosting the complete Academy Award winning ensemble of West Side Story, featuring Oscar winner/Golden Globe winner George Chakiris together with Golden Globe winner/Oscar-nominated Russ Tamblyn. The Ventura Film Festival creator and executive director was chosen to participate, along with several of Hollywood's premier talents, in the 50-year anniversary event of West Side Story and Hollywood's iconic footprint/handprint ceremony celebrating Academy Award recipients Rita Moreno, George Chakiris, together with Golden Globe recipient Russ Tamblyn at the Chinese Theater in Hollywood. This celebration also functioned as the official BluRay release by Fox and MGM of the iconic West Side Story, which is broadly regarded by critics and fans as the greatest musical of all time.
